Baader 2" Filter Crown Tool

This tool is used to unscrew hard-to-reach 2" filters. It was originally developed for the   Baader 2" Cool-Ceramic Safety Herschel Prism Mark II – (Visual / Photo) (various versions available) to make it easier to replace the installed filters and is designed for all current Baader 2" filters with low-profile mounts - fit not guaranteed with older filters.

Our modern filter cells are very thin-walled to provide the largest possible clear aperture for the actual filter. If a filter is tightly fitted and difficult to access (e.g., in a filter changer or in the rotation mechanism of a Herschel wedge), it can easily deform if you grip and rotate it with only two fingers. Deforming the filter housing can cause it to jam even more than before. With this 2" filter crown tool, the pressure is distributed over a large area so that it cannot deform - just as if you were gripping the entire filter frame with your hand. This gives you a much better grip to twist it out - and you don't have to worry about accidentally leaving fingerprints on the filter surface.

Our new tool, the "Filter Crown Tool", is specifically designed for all modern Baader 2" mounted filters. This is due to the unique design of our filter cells, which feature a precisely milled "filter crown". The filter crown tool interacts with this special notch and is only effective when used correctly. Because of these features, the tool is not compatible with filters from other manufacturers.

This crown key is made by 3D printing. 3D printer owners can also find the print file in our download area.
